Motivation for the Week:
"Anger makes your mouth work faster than your mind."

Important: For Periods 1&3 we will be handling Homework Packets differently for the remainder of the semester.
  • Homework Packets will be collected at the end of each unit, on test day. It will be graded as a homework assignment.
  • Crossword puzzles will continue to receive a grade individually, not as part of the Homework Packet grade.
  • Homework Packets will receive a score from 0 - 10 and will be graded wholistically on both accuracy and completion.
  • In order to be eligible for Test Corrections, a student must earn an 8.5 or greater on their Homework Packet. Please note, a late Homework Packet cannot earn a grade higher than a 7, automatically making the student ineligible for Test Corrections.
Agenda
Periods 1&4

1) Rights, Duties, and Responsibilities
We began class by assigning a card to most students. The cards had a right, duty, or responsibility of American Civic Life written on it. It was up to the students without the cards to sort the students with the cards. We then discussed each category and each card in the context of Rights, Duties, and Responsibilities. The students learned about Conscription (the draft) by looking at actual conscription documents that belong to my father who was drafted, but deferred, for Vietnam.

2) Political System Cycle
We continued looking at the PowerPoint. Discussing how people in the United States use the system to incite changes in government.

3) Immigration and Naturalization
Using primary documents, my great grandparents' Declarations of Intent and Alien Registration cards, we talked about the process and how, during World War II expatriates of Axis powers were required to carry documentation.

Period 3
